Here are some terms and concepts commonly used in interpreting an astrological chart:

Sun Sign:   Fuels the individual's life purpose

 

Rising Sign: The outer shell of the personality

 

Moon:  Emotional habits and the moment-to-moment     response system of the self

 

Houses:  The houses are the twelve slices of sky your        chart is broken down into, based on the sun's daily movement. It has been said that the planet is the actor, the sign is the role, and the house is  the stage of the action

Aspects: Meaningful geometric angles between planets      and groups of planets that reveal relationships between the different components of the psyche

 

Planetary Pictures:  Groups of aspects that have an               integrating function in a chart.

 

The Planets and their spheres of influence:

Mercury: Mental apparatus and associative faculties

Venus: Values, aesthetics, principles of attraction

Mars:  Survival instinct, drive to assert and particularize the ego

Jupiter: Law of expansion

Saturn:  Law of contraction

Uranus: Urge to break away from the norm

Neptune: Chaos; the collective unconscious

Pluto:  Cyclical law of destruction and renewal
